Engineer
Joshua Liyungu is a civil engineer specializing in construction materials modelling, transportation, and environmental engineering, with a strong focus on sustainable infrastructure and innovative materials. He holds both bachelor's and master's degrees in civil engineering and is currently pursuing a PhD focused on optimizing rubber pretreatment to enhance the performance of crumb rubber concrete. His research integrates artificial intelligence, advanced machine learning, and multi-objective optimization to improve the mechanical performance, cost-efficiency, and environmental impact of rubberized concrete for structural and road applications. He is particularly passionate about applying data-driven methods to tackle sustainability challenges, especially in emerging economies. As a young researcher, Joshua has published peer-reviewed papers both as a first author and a co-author. His work, which appears in reputable journals such as Construction and Building Materials and the Journal of Materials in Civil Engineering, focuses on rubberized concrete, sustainable materials, and machine learning, with specific contributions to optimization of crumb rubber concrete, sustainability, and innovative rubber treatment.
