Chabila Christopher Mapoma is an Associate Professor of Demography and Population Studies in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Zambia (UNZA). With over two decades of experience, he holds a PhD in Population Ageing from UNZA through a prestigious SANPAD fellowship a Master of Laws in Demography from Peking University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Demography from UNZA. His expertise spans demographic estimation, health demography, CRVS, and monitoring and evaluation. Professor Mapoma has significantly impacted industry and policy by designing evaluation and research frameworks for the World Health Organization across East and Southern Africa, and contributing to national health system enhancements. His research interests focus on mortality trends, reproductive health, civil registration data quality, and disease burden mapping. He has contributed extensively to high-impact literature in The Lancet, Nature Medicine, and BMC Public Health, publishing pivotal work on maternal mortality certification errors and verbal autopsy applications. Committed to academic mentorship, he has successfully supervised numerous postgraduate theses and undergraduate dissertations, shaping the next generation of demographic researchers and public health professionals in Zambia.
